Mai is my first Vampire the Masquerade Character and the one I am playing in my first campaign.
I kept her relatively similar to myself in a few ways, so I could have an easier time roleplaying her, since it was my first time.
I decided to make her a gangrel because, I mean I'm a furry, so it's kind of an obvious choice to pick the clan that can transform
into animals
She carries around a box with insect friends. She always had a stronger connection with animals as a child since she always felt othered by humans.
She was disowned by her parents and kicked out of the house when she was 15 after they found out she was trans.
The whole thing happened in the late 80s. She has since lost contact with her family and has no interest in them.
The only thing she feels sorry for is her little brother Jacob, that she could never be the big sister he deserved.
He was the only one who listened to her when they were kids.
After a while on the streets, she found a group of other
queer people where she found support. One of the people was Adelaide, who also helped her get HRT. This woman was a vampire.
After Mai was attacked and beaten up, Adelaide decided to turn her because she saw how resiliant but also emotional ruined Mai
was at the end and wanted to give her the strength to defend herself. On her first night, she killed an elderly homeless man
in a rage and was so distraught by her situation, that she cut off contact with everyone for the time being.
Adelaide watched
her from a distance and only showed up after a month, after Mai slowly became aware of her situation.
After that she was a
mentor for Mai. She drank mainly without killing, but did not reject murder in principle. Over the years, she had some
politicians, policemen and generally people she did not like, killed. Only from poor people she had kept away because of
her first night.
Adelaide died in the 90s. She was heavily involved in the black market, dealing medicine and drugs. The people who controlled
the region felt she had gained too much influence and set 2 vampires Malik, a 12th generation Assamite, and Kace, an 11th
generation Malkavian, on her, who eventually killed her. (Malik is a man and Kace NB (all pronouns)).
Mai swore revenge and
took Adelaide's name as her last name out of love and respect.
She started traveling with a group of other vampires after being assigned a mission to retrieve a stolen item.
She is assigned that mission by Sereal, the head vampire of the capital.
Her group members are Cassian Sinner, Grace Blackburn and Charly Churchill. (my friends' characters)
At the beginning of the mission, as a sign of good faith they all got a little mushbuddy (small mushroom creature) as a companion. Mai named hers Clifford.
She is an anarchist. Considering the time she grew up in and things she's experienced, she isn't very fond of the
government or the police.
She also stopped drinking for the most part because she often causes conflict and arguments when she's drunk. She only drinks
around Jenna as she feels safe then.

"So.. Mai, huh? Yeah, she's one of a kind. Responsible and nice - so kinda the opposite of what I was going for. But hey, it's good to know there's gonna be someone to scold the f out of you after you drank too much, sooo.. don't tell her, but she's kinda cool"
Grace
Companion
“Oh Mai? I love her, she's always so nice and caring and sometimes she's very protective, like a big sister.”
Charly
Companion
"Mai is a sweet little thing, always cares for rodents and other dirt-bound creatures. I admire, that she cares for those, who are beneath her. I couldn't do that. "
